THE DIVINE ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE – LORD VISHVAKARMA.

Vishvakarma is regarded as the God of ‘creation’ in Hindu mythology. It is believed that he is the ultimate creator. He is the divine architect of the universe. He has created many palaces for Gods in all four yugas. The term Visvakarma was originally used as an epithet for any supreme god and as an attribute of Indra and the Sun. The name Visvakarma occurs five times in the tenth book of the Rigveda.

Lord Vishvakarma is described as the god of carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, masons and all those people who are skilled in crafts.

Vishvakarma was related to the sun god Surya through his daughter Samjna. According to the legend, when Samjna left her house due to Surya's energy, Vishvakarma reduced the energy and created various other weapons using it. He is credited with building the palace of the king of gods, Indra. He even made the sacred weapon of Indra using the bones of sage Dadhichi and also the Agnayestra.

He also created Lord Krishna’s city of Dwarka and also made his Sudarshan Chakra. Not only this, but he also designed Pandavas’ Palace of Illusions in Indraprastha. According to the epic Ramayana, the vanara (forest-man or monkey) Nala was the son of Vishvakarma, created to aid the avatar Rama.

According to Hind, when Ravana was invited to perform the Grihapravesh ritual of Lord Shiva and Parvati’s abode, which was a golden place designed by Lord Vishvakarma, he was awestruck by the beauty of their home. After the sacred ceremony when Shiva asked Ravana to ask anything as per his wish for the Dakshina, Ravana, mesmerized by the golden place, asked for the golden place itself. Shiva was obliged to accept Ravana’s wish and the golden Lanka became Ravana’s abode.

He is said to have revealed the Sthapatyavedaor fourth Upa-veda and presides over the sixty-four mechanical arts.

"Vishwakarma Puja" always celebrated in India on the 17/18 September of every Year.
